FROM THE SOURCE:
It’s harvest season in China's largest cotton-growing area, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the northwestern part of the country. With its abundant sunshine and dry climate, the region is perfect for cotton growing and accounts for more than 87 percent of the country’s total cotton output. And even within the province, slightly different climates call for different strains of cotton which are harvested at different periods until the end of October. So far this year, farmers say, the yields look good. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, for the 2023 to 24 production period, China was the world’s top cotton producer, responsible for about 24 percent of the global total.
